There seems to be a general agreement that things are getting ugly at BC, though, as Lorelei's post makes clear, strong disagreement about who's causing the trouble and who the victims of it are.

Personally, I'll stand up for Timethief, who I think is one of the more rational and intelligent people on the forums; if she sometimes blows up, it's because of some of the more passive agressive members of the community who make incredibly offensive sexist, racist, and homophobic remarks or try to use the forums to evangelize the rest of us, and then put on an "I didn't mean to be controversial" mask whenever anyone attempts to point out what they're doing (and let's just say that at least one of them is mentioned favorable in Loralei's post). And, though he's perhaps a bit more mischievous, I would say essentially the same for Voodookobra. As for me, I've felt goaded into making a few ad hominem attacks as well in recent weeks, and, for that reason have mostly been keeping away (out of disapproval for both my behavior and that of those doing the goading).

That in mind, I don't mean to start a fight with poisonapplesauce here. Though I seem to disagree with her on most things, I've never found her to be anything but respectful of others in the forums. Nonetheless, I'm sorry to see the personal attacks in her blog post.

They are absolutely getting out of control. There is a lot of intolerance. I do want to point out that there were 3 other members who assisted with a good bit of that, 1 is a guest, 1 wants to remain anonymous and the third was mikka. You get slammed if you preach, you get slammed if you don't preach. I have had to remove my blog 3 times due to some users maliciously messing with it even before I added that post. Way back, in August? I contacted admin a few times about it and nothing was done. then I attempted to be friendly to those who were intentionally offensive. It's a tough call, there are so many good users and so many good blogs (the reason I remain a member) it's just the current abuse system is set up in away where it becomes abusive itself, it allows a gang up mentality. If a post if written by user X and user x is on the majority's bad side, it doesn't matter what they say it is reported so fast it vanishes, yet if user B posts the same exact thing it remains on the front page for days. My post was more in jest, to compare the behaviors to the age appropriate level and hopefully come up with a little web series.

yep, i do think it's outa control. i rather disagree with several of the characterizations she gives - but i've thought BC needed more serious rules and some volunteer moderators who will see that the rules are followed (rather than acting on their own set of rules).

Some are I think if people stick to the topic and not use personal attacks that cooler heads would prevail.

Sometimes, but the blog post you cite only adds fuel to the fire it purports to dislike, because it adds personal characterizations of individual users.
